Nirmal has worked at Tata Steel in the Netherlands, on the Indian Navy's Scorpene Submarine project, and at Airbus in France. His PhD was completed in collaboration with institutions in Australia and Europe, and he currently leads research at a green energy organisation in Europe. Over a thousand students have gone through his guidance.
